What is Global Warming Potential

  • Global Warming Potential (GWP ) is a term that was created to allow the comparisons of the Global Warming effects of different gasses to one another.
  • It is the measurement of how much energy the emission of 1 ton of a gas will absorb over a given period of time in comparison to the emissions of 1 ton of Carbon Dioxide (C02).
  • The Higher the GWP the more that a given gas will warm the Earth compared to C02 over that period of time. That time period being 100 years
  • CO2 has a GWP of 1, it is the reference point
